Revolutionary Movements
- A transnational study of the modern concept of “revolutions.” Since the Enlightenment, swift (and often violent) political change has been characterized as “revolutionary,” characterized by the complete overthrow and restructuring of society. Students will have an opportunity to explore and compare political and social revolutionary movements, including the French and American Revolutions of the 18th centuries, the Communist and Fascist revolutions of the 20th century, decolonization in Africa, Asia and Latin America, as well as social movements such as feminism and civil rights.
