The coursework to qualify for NJ teaching certification consists of:
Education Sequence (3 course units)
- SPE 103: Social and Legal Foundations of Special Education
- SED 224: Adolescent Learning and Development
- EFN 299: Schools and Communities
Note: These courses should be completed in separate semesters. These courses are typically completed in your sophomore year and must be completed before your Junior Field Experience.
Social Studies Requirement (2 course units)
- POL 110: Political Science
- Economics – Approved HIS course or a department-approved alternative: ECO101, ECO 102, ECO 210
Note: An approved history course or ECO 210 will double count for the Economics requirement and a major requirement.
Clinical 1 Experience (3 course units)
- SED 399: Pedagogy in Secondary Schools
- HED 390: Social Studies
- RAL 328: Reading in Secondary Education
Note: These courses must be completed concurrently.
Student Teaching – Clinical 2 Experience (2 course units)
- HED 490: Student Teaching
- SED 498: Collaborative Capstone for Professional Inquiry
Note: These courses must be completed concurrently. You must have a 2.75 GPA to student teach.
