This week Women Gender Studies and the History Department will host a Women’s History Month speaker who has made a enormous impact on out discipline. Our Women’s History Month Guest Speaker – Lillian Faderman: Finding Our Foremothers: Lesbian Marriage in the 19th and Early 20th Centuries.
Lillian Faderman is an internationally known scholar of lesbian history and literature, as well as ethnic history and literature. The New York Times named two of her books, including “Odd Girls and Twilight Lovers,” on its Notable Books of the Year list. Though same sex marriage is now legal in a number of US states, Faderman will discuss the historical significance of lesbian marriages that existed before the laws came into effect.
